Professor Harvey Bronstein of Southfield was elect-
ed vice chair of the Michigan Higher Education
Student Loan Authority and also the Michigan
Higher Education Assistance Authority for 2005.

Michael H. Traison, a principal at the Detroit law
firm of Miller, Canfield and Stone PLC, was
appointed to the board of directors of the Chicago
and Midwest Region of the American Friends of
Shaare Zedek Hospital of Jerusalem. Traison repre-
sents Israeli companies with interests in Eastern
Europe and North America; he also works out of
Miller Canfield's three offices in Poland.

Martin Barr of West Bloomfield,
board chair of Visiting Nurse
Association Inc. and former dean of
the College of Pharmacy and Allied
Health Professionals and a vice
president at Wayne State University
in Detroit, was among a group of
community leaders to earn a
Claude Pepper Certificate of Merit
Barr
at the recent Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Michigan Senior Advisory

Council awards ceremony. Barr gives talks to clinical
nursing staff engaged in the care of the elderly and
to retirees relating to health care issues. He also
researched and developed a training seminar on the
new Medicare Prescription Drug Program.

The Detroit Institute of Arts has elected new mem-
bers to its board of directors. Among them are
Robert K. Katzman, president of the Sidney Robert
Katzman Foundation, and Janis Wetsman, trustee
of the Wetsman Foundation.

Dr. Steven Gordon, former Detroiter, has been
named chairman of the Department of Infectious
Disease in the Division of Medicine at the
Cleveland Clinic.

Jason A. Klein of West Bloomfield
has received the Golden Eagle
Award from the National
Association of underwriters for
demonstrating professional excel-
lence in the sale of health and dis-
ability income insurance. Klein is
regional vice president Group Sales
Division of PharmaCare in

Bingham Farms.
Sharone Senk of Southfield, assis-
tant director of the Michigan
regional office of the Anti-
Defamation League, has been
accepted to the Michigan Political
Leadership Program, which
recruits, trains and inspires tomor-
row's public policy leaders.

Joel Epstein of West Bloomfield,
a member of the Marx Layne &
Co. marketing and public relations
team in Farmington Hills, was
recently promoted from account
executive to senior account execu-
tive. He is responsible for imple-
menting public relations strategies
for clients in the healthcare, auto-
motive and manufacturing sectors.
