fund-raising as it is about promoting
meaningful books for the Jewish
home that will enhance Jewish liv-
ing," said Rochel Kagan, a director of
the group. "To promote purchasing
books for the home, many of the
publishers are offering a 20 percent
discount that evening on all books
ordered from their catalogues."
There will be a dessert buffet and

can participate in a wok-cooking
demonstration by Rachael Ben-

After the auction, there will be a
brief program featuring Rabbi

With the deaths of former Detroiters
Dan and Jeanine Gluklick came ever-
mounting bills for their children, now
living with family in West Bloomfield.
After the Gluklicks were killed in an
August off-roading accident near their
home in Colorado, daughters Corinne,
18, and Chloe, 15, came to live with
Dan's sister, Karen Braun, her husband,
Bob, and their three children.
The Gluklicks' son, Cole, 11, who
was in the vehicle with his parents dur-
ing the accident, suffered serious brain
damage and remains semi-comatose.
Cole's medical bills will soon exceed the
limit of the family's health insurance
policy.
Because of
no-fault insur-
ance laws in
Colorado,
there is no auto
insurance.
When his
health insur-
ance runs out,
only life insur-
ance and sav-
ings will be left
for the lifetime
medical care
Cole will
require, and for The Gluklick family
the care and
education of his sisters.
When friends at Powerhouse Gym
and Loredo's Athletic Club in West
Bloomfield learned of the family's situa-
tion, they planned an 8 a.m.-noon,
Saturday, Dec. 11, charity event, with
all donations going to the Gluklick
Children's Fund.
Participants in the fund-raiser —
including non-members — will have
access to the gym's spinning, kickbox-
ing, "body by rock" and yoga classes.

Do You Remember?
"This Hanukah's doomed," fretted Joel.
matza ball slipped from my bowl,
And landed a knaydl*
On top of my dreidl**.
Now things have spun out of control!"
December 1984
Tel Aviv, Israel's largest city, was facing complete
breakdown of public services as striking munici-
pal workers were joined by emergency mainte-
nance personnel.
The cause: the failure of the municipality to
pay its employees their last month's wages. City
coffers are empty and the treasury refused to
transfer funds to meet payroll.

The minimum donation to participate
is $100, but participants may ask oth-
ers to help sponsor their cost.
"I think that we are all entrusted
with the responsibility to help those in
need if we can," participant Karen
Braun said. "These three children face a
mountain of challenges, the least of
which is Cole's lifetime of medical care.
I know in my heart they will remember
that people they never knew reached
out and helped them at a moment
when their lives were upside down, and
that they will return this kindness to
someone else when they are able to.
