The 2004 BMW 645 Ci's base price
is $78,295, and the version
I drove had a sticker price of $79,495.
The car gets 18 miles per gallon in
the city and 26 on the highway.
You can order the 645 Ci in a coupe
or convertible, with six-speed manual,
six-speed Steptronic (using shift pad-
dles without a clutch), or the automat-
ic. I drove the automatic, which is
perfect for city driving.
It can hustle from zero to 60 in a
respectable 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of
149 mph.
Easy-to-read gauges and a simple-to-use con-
trol display, which includes a kickin' stereo sys-
tem and an onboard computer navigation sys-
tem, complete an awesome looking interior that
has the same clean lines that the exterior has
with the top down.
This convertible had the $1,800 cold winter
package, which included a heated steering
wheel, heated front seats, and a bag that allows

storage of four sets of skis and poles from the
trunk through the rear seat armrest.
It's loaded with safety features, too, including
front and door-mounted airbags.
The convertible has a rollover protection sys-
tem, which combines a reinforced windshield
frame with sensors that automatically deploy
steel beams through the headrests at the first
sign of a rollover.
Another control system aims the headlights
into turns to help nighttime visiblity.
One auto reviewer likened the 645Ci to a
Camaro, but I believe he spent too much time
test-driving race cars. This BMW kicks butt.
Dollar for dollar and pound for pound, it's the
best car I've driven yet. I I
