$1,000 Cash Back on All Remaining 2004 Vehicles The food by chefs from each region is well prepared ... with distinctive and sel- dom-had tastes ... Much character goes into each dish, especially the Malaysian ... Whatever the chef does in preparing the fish, poultry, beef or vegetables, it is certainly with an elaborate flavor experi- ence. Like the marinated chicken satay served on skewers and accompanied by a peanut sauce, or the satay with grilled tofu, bean sprouts and other vegetables. Look for the Old Orchard's only blue sign above its tenants ... Blue Ginger is a culinary adventure not to be missed. SOMETIMES, A RESTAURANT name change can make a difference ... But the chances of success are still very remote if the food isn't any better and service isn't up to par. A great case of this is Sposita's Family Italian Ristorante on W 14 Mile between Orchard Lake Road and Farmington Road in West Bloomfield It originally opened under a promi- nent restaurant name, but mediocre food and so-so management brought about a customer relationship that almost unraveled like a rolling spool of thread. This was five years ago ... and big rea- son for the anniversary celebration this month, which many people never thought would happen. By upgrading the food immensely with Executive Chef Paulo Pichardo and his staff; owners Joe and Lois Sposita, with their general manager son, Tony, took over, presented a more personable management, with smiles instead of frowns ... and proudly changed the name to theirs. They proved that a restaurant name is really very secondary ... Give the people what they want and they won't care a hoot if it is upside down. So much so that Sposita's today cele- brates its fifth anniversary as one of the finest Italian-American neighborhood family restaurants around. NEW FULL LENGTH film by for- mer martial arts localite Eric S. Kingston, son of Arlene and William Kingston, is called 40 Mirrors ... It is in collaboration with Eric S. Kaplan, the picture's co-author and director, who produced Full Blast starring David Carradine and Traci Lords. The movie is based on excerpts from Eric Kingston's book, Garments of Mirrors, his theories of the working internal energy principles of the Hebrew letters and the Tree of Life plus showcas- ing Eric's original system of martial arts ... Significance of the film's showing of the Torah, Ark of the Covenant and staff of Moses is to illustrate a relationship - with God and humanity. In 40 Mirrors, Eric is studying the energy system of Hebrew and must take a perilous journey, facing brutal martial tests to fulfill an ancient prophecy Before going to California and the movie industry, Eric Kingston lived in West Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills over 20 years ... Eric Kaplan taught screenwriting at the University of Michigan. A WONDERFUL COLLECTION of photos makes up the new book on the former J.L. Hudson Company department store on Woodward in downtown Detroit ... It is written by Michael Hauser, marketing director of the Detroit Opera House, and Marianne Weldon. The pictures and descriptions bring back many memories ... but for me, none better than the restaurants it had. Recollections back to 1947, when the Basement Tea Room was changed into a cafeteria-style dining spot and the lines seemed endless ... Or of 1959, when the Pine Room was remodeled into three rooms and, in 1975, became Hudson's Beef Emporium. But many folks will remember the Riverview Room on the 13th floor ... which, in 1959, was created by combin- ing the Georgian Room and Pine dining room ... Four large picture windows fac- ing Farmer Street gave a striking view of the Detroit River. I think the Riverview Room was one of the first, if not the first, to serve a Maurice salad ... Also, who could forget those great blueberry muffins, the lus- cious chicken pot pie, Canadian cheese soup, etc. It was a shopper's paradise ... with even non-shoppers coming to dine in a fine lunch experience. The memories of J.L. Hudson's are many ... as so vividly described pictorial- ly in Hudson's: Detroit's Legendary Department Store. HANGING ON A WALL of the new Yossie's Israeli Cuisine, off Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield, is the Israel flag that last year hung above the front podium at the Knesset in Jerusalem ... Was given to owner Yossie Benjamin for good luck by Ari and Karolyn Leibovitz.
