Shalom, Baby!
C
hanukah arrived weeks in
advance for about 65 children,
ages newborn to 3, during a
Shalom Baby program called "Smile
Baby ... It's Hanukkah!" at the Max M.
Fisher Federation Building in
Bloomfield Township on Nov. 15.
Shalom Baby is a program of the
Women's Campaign & Education
Department and Jewish Experiences for
Families (JEFF) of the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit.
The children and their mothers
enjoyed a special photography session by
Elaine Yaker and Marcia Boxman of
Pierce Street Portraits in Birmingham, a
holiday sing-a-long, picture-frame deco-
rating and doughnuts.
"This was such a fun and successful
program," said Barbara Zaltz of
Huntington Woods, Shalom Baby co-
chair. "The children really had a blast
and we know that the parents and
Karen Johnson of Bloomfield Hills tries to coax a smile from her daughter Emily, 5
months, as photographer Marcha Ciaboxman helps.
Valarie Sher, 14 months, takes a break from playing.
grandparents will enjoy the beautiful
pictures as keepsakes for years to come."
Co-chair Amy Schlussel of
Huntington Woods said, "Shalom Baby
is a great way for moms with young
children to meet each other and get
introduced to the Federation family."
Shalom Baby's next event is for par-
ents only on Thursday evening, Feb. 10,
and will feature pediatrician Dr. Janet
Snider of Southfield and Ellen
Yashinsky-Chute, Jewish Family Service
social worker. The topics will be
infant/toddler development and behav-
ior.
