Seniors `Winterized' Volunteers help JFS's Fall Fix Up program. KERI GUTEN COHEN Story Development Editor S ome 175 volunteers, with help from good weather, came together Sunday, Nov. 7, to aid homebound older adults prepare their homes for the winter as part of Jewish Family Service's eighth annual Fall Fix Up. Among the first to arrive at Yeshivas Darchei Torah on Sunday morning were high school and college vol- unteer groups. Synagogue groups followed with fami- lies and individuals. "For the past three years, Yeshivas Darchei Torah has been a sponsor of the Fall Fix Up, and they allow us to use their school as a home base for the project," said Michelle Malamis, JFS program director of volunteer services. Students came from the University of Michigan, the Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit, Berkley High School and Yeshivas Darchei Torah. Community agencies and congregations also had volunteer groups. These included Congregation Beth Ahm, Congregation Beth Shalom and JARC. Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity from the University of Michigan had 23 volunteers. Josh Kaplan, Alpha Gamma Philanthropy chair said, "This is a good oppor- tunity for each of us to do something together. It was a good team bonding experience. Everyone had a blast." Malamis credits Fall Fix Up sponsors, committee members and volunteers with making the event a suc- cess. Program sponsors included Beaumont Hospital, Costco, Hanson's Windows, Providence Hospital, Universal Bearing, Inc., and Yeshivas Darchei Torah.
