"Sex and the City"stylist shares
trendy tips at Tapper's party.

STORY BY ROBIN SCHWARTZ I PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANGIE BAAN

urrounded by dazzling diamonds
and gorgeous gems, dozens of metro
Detroit's hippest shoppers mingled
at Tapper's Diamonds & Fine
Jewelry to shmooze, sip cocktails
and get fashion tips from trendsetter
Rebecca Weinberg, the stylist
behind the HBO hit series Sex and
the City. "There are no rules in
fashion — that's the beauty of
it — it has an ebb and a
flow," said Weinberg, who
helped dress the stylish
cast of the Emmy
award-winning show,
which recently ended
its six-year run. It is cur-
rently in reruns on
cable's TBS network.
The New York City
fashion maven gave personal
wardrobe advice as cocktail party
guests admired a large collection of
pricey ceramic and diamond Rado watches
at Tapper's in West Bloomfield's Orchard
Mall.
Rado hosted the Sept. 23 party. The
Swiss company uses the same type of high-
tech material used on the space shuttle to
make watches that are scratchproof.
Suzi Epstein of West Bloomfield had
her eye on a white watch with diamonds

around the face. "I think they're practical
as well as being high style, and they're
unique,"
she said.
Manny Charach, a self-proclaimed
"watch freak," came to look at the newest
Rado watches to add to his extensive col-
lection. He says he got his first one in 1967.
"When I buy a watch, I buy it for the
way it looks," the Bloomfield
Hills resident said.
Finding the right "look"
s what Weinberg is all
about. Her eye for style
helped keep the stars of
Sex and the City on the cut-
ting edge. So what's her
best fashion advice?
"Be true to yourself,"
she said. "Don't try to live
beyond your means. Narrow it
down and keep it simple."
Weinberg urges people to be confi-
dent in what they wear and invest in some
key pieces. "Short jackets, layers and
cropped pants paired with high heels" —
these are her favorite looks for fall.
She credits her Jewish upbringing, and
the women in her life, with helping her
develop her keen fashion sense. "Jewish
women have a lot of style; they have chutz-
pah; they have it going on," she said.
