area brought problems with them
from Russia."
Green met with the Israeli anti-
drug authority, along with parents,
teachers and children in the area.
One big problem, he learned, was
that there was little for children to
do after school — except get into
trouble.
So the Green family, after dis-
cussing the situation with both the
Arab and Jewish mayors of the area,
decided to build a tennis center and
stadium where children could get
involved in a variety of activities like
tennis, soccer and music classes.
This past spring, the community
celebrated the opening of the soccer
stadium in Upper Nazareth for both
Arab and Jewish children to play
together. Instead of separate Arab
and Jewish teams as in other areas of
Israel, this center integrates the
teams, Green says.
Green is proud of a personal pro-
motion of cooperation that occurred
because of the building of the center.
After the riot four years ago, the
Jewish and Arab mayors did not
talk to each other. But two years
ago, Green's son, Don, of Toronto,
arranged for the two to shake
hands at the groundbreaking cele-
bration of the child development
center, and that has lead to some
cooperation.
