Havdalah Happening Set

Adat Shalom Synagogue will hold a
Havdalah Happening 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 6, at the synagogue.
Adults and children will mark the
end of Shabbat with the traditional
twisted candle, spices and Havdalah
music. Then they will participate in
educational and entertaining activities,
including looking at the stars through
StarLab, a portable planetarium,
which will set up at the synagogue.
There is no charge. To attend, call

The Jewish Theological Seminary
Detroit Cabinet, Congregations Adat
Shalom, Beth Ahm, Beth Shalom,
B'nai Moshe, Shaarey Zedek along
with Hillel Day School of Metro poli-
tan Detroit will co-sponsor Celebrate
Jewish Families with an outing to the
Detroit Science Center Sunday, Oct.
31, 1-4 p.m.
Karen Alpiner is chairing this first-
ever community wide program for
families with children or grandchil-
dren ages 5 to 12.
Parents, grandparents, aunts and
uncles and older siblings are all invited
to join in the fun, which will combine
a Jewish perspective on science with
interactive activities and demonstra-
tions.
Refreshments will be served. The
cost will be $5 per person. For infor-
mation or reservations, call the syna-
gogue office or the Detroit JTS office,
(248) 258-0055.

Hebrew Classes Start

Two new beginner adult Hebrew read-
ing classes will begin at Congregation
B'nai Moshe Wednesday, Nov. 3, 7-8
p.m. and again 8-9 p.m., taught by
Dr. Mark Roth.
The classes are co-sponsored by the
shul's Kolel Moshe Lifelong Learning
Institute and the New York-based
NJOP (National Jewish Outreach
Program, as part of NJOP's annual fall
campaign "Read Hebrew America."
The classes will run on Wednesday
nights through mid-February
The NJOP classes are open to the
community; there is no charge, but a
weekly attendance commitment is
expected. Curriculum materials for the
classes are provided by the NJOP.
