uests were treated to a unique experience at the
Oct. 21 Great American Traditions Award Dinner
honoring Alan H. Barry.
The guest of honor, a Temple Israel member and presi-
dent of Masco Corporation, hosted the tribute dinner for
400 B'nai B'rith supporters at his corporate headquarters in
Taylor.'
Attendees were able to tour Masco's
extensive collections of Americana, beauti-
fully displayed in gallery-like areas through-
out the building, as well as tour the com-
pany's showroom-style product galleries of
Masco's kitchen, bath, home and home-
improvement products.
Marty Melton, an executive at Masco
subsidiary Brasscraft, where Barry originally
worked, spoke briefly at the dinner. He
ALAN
asked, "Who would have believed that
H ITS KY
Alan Barry would rise from manager of a
Associate
B'nai B'rith softball team to president of
Editor
Brasscraft and then president of
Masco?"
Other speakers at the event, which benefited the B'nai
B'rith Youth Organization, included BBG president Katie
Blender, a senior at Birmingham Groves High School;
AZA president John Wright Jr., a senior at West
Bloomfield High; Detroit Tiger impersonator Bruce
Rosenblat, dinner chair; Steven Zorn, president of B'nai
B'rith Great Lakes Region; Joel Kaplan, BB international
president; Rabbi Paul Yedwab of Temple Israel; and Alan
and Karen Barry's children, Laura Kay and Todd Barry
Former TV sportscaster Eli Zaret was the humorous
master of ceremonies and Temple Israel's Cantor Harold
Orbach nearly stole the show with his stirring "Salute to
America."
But the show-stealing honor went to Alan Barry who
announced a $50,000 Masco gift and a $25,000 personal
gift to B'nai B'rith's national senior housing program in
honor of Masco's 75th anniversary 0
