JARC's Ope
Performance

etroit's Motor City Grill may be "thoroughly modern"
but on Oct. 13 it was transformed into a 1920s
speakeasy for a young adult party that was part of JARC's
24th annual fall fund-raiser.
More than 200 "fellas" and "skirts" enjoyed
cocktails and a strolling supper before the per-
formance of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the
Fisher Theatre. Women were handed strings of
faux pearls as they entered the room.
"We're so excited to have such a great turnout
Stacey and Steve Gursten, Loren and Mindy Blumberg
of young adults to help people with disabil-
ities," said Amy Schlussel, one of the party's
ROBIN
co-chairs. Other co-chairs for the event
S CHWARTZ included Jeff Schlussel, Amy and Brian
Special to the Shapiro, and Marla Tapper.

The fall fund-raiser, which took place
Jennifer- and Eric Rosenberg
over two nights, raised $1.2 million for the
nonprofit JARC, which helps people with
disabilities lead full, active and dignified
lives.
"Tonight, you are part of one of the
largest single fund-raisers in Michigan," said
Craig Erlich, the event's organizer, who
thanked participants for their support. He
said more than 4,000 people attended both
nights of the show. Through the generosity
of donors who underwrote the entire cost of
the event, 100 percent of the ticket sales
went directly to JARC. JARC has been help-
ing people with disabilities for 35 years.
Volunteers Stacey and Steve Gursten have
seen JARC's impact first-hand. "It's nice to
do activities that benefit the consumers and
interact with them on a one-on-one level,"
said Stacey. 'O
