I cherish the freedoms America grants each of us as individuals, and I advocate curtailing those freedoms — even slightly — with the greatest of trepidation. But as a society we must uphold the eternal ethical truths that God lays down for us. So I'm voting for Proposal 2. To be clear, the Constitution was written to protect the rights of all citizens, not to negate them for any specific group. Furthermore, the Constitution is not the place to dic- tate a change in morality every time a politician or small, but vocal group has an idea about what the morality should be. Let us join in the legacy of Rabbi Heschel, joining hands at the polls and praying with our feet so that discrimination, bigotry and intoler- ance have no place in our midst, not in our state and certainly not in our Constitution. ❑
