His opponent, Treasurer Dan Devine, was appointed to the post in late 1999. The salary for the position is $99,736 a year. Ging says that one issue of great concern is a millage proposal intended to finance a $16.5 mil- • Ging lion equipment mainte- nance facility. "I and many other resi- dents feel a Yamasaki design for a facility that maintains road equip- ment is excessive," says Devine Ging, who is a member of Temple Beth El. He adds that he is not against having such a facility, but that he favors a more eco- nomical building. Ging, running as an independent, says he understands budgets and is responsible for developing budgets for several companies. Married and the father of a son, Ging has lived in his community for more than 12 years. He graduated from Kent State University in Ohio and earned a master's of science degree from Barry University in Miami, Fla. Republican Devine says that main- taining and enhancing municipal servic- es is key to his job. He says Troy-based Yamasaki Associates Inc. was charged with coming up with the most cost- effective and long-lasting building design for the facility behind Township Hall on Telegraph and Long Lake roads. "The Public Services Facility will be built to last 50 years," he says. "It allows us to maintain our fleet of municipal vehicles — fire trucks, police cars and snow plows— in-house." Devine says that he has saved town- ship residents more than $1 million a year by re-allocating pension funds. A township resident for 30 years, Devine is married with four children and has a bachelor's degree from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind., and a law degree from Detroit College of Law. 0
