Federation Honors

Young leaders cited for community service.

ach year, the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit recog-
nizes three young leaders for
exceptional community involvement.
The awards will be given at the joint
meeting of the Board of Governors of
the Jewish Federation and United
Jewish Foundation of Metropolitan
Detroit on
Wednesday,
Oct. 27, at the
Max M. Fisher
Federation
Building in
Bloomfield
Township.
The recipi-
ents for 2004
are: Jennifer
Silverman, the
Silverman
Sylvia Simon
Greenberg
Award; Todd
Sachse, the Frank A. Wetsman Award;
and Sheri Wagner, the Mark Family
Award.
The Sylvia Simon Greenberg Award
recognizes outstanding female leader-
ship and service to the Jewish commu-
nity. Silverman plays an active volun-
teer role across a wide spectrum.
She is member of the boards of the
Jewish Federation and its Women's
Campaign and Education
Department, and a trustee of the
Jewish Women's Foundation.
As a member of the executive com-
mittee of Jewish Family Service, she
serves as co-chair of the Outreach and
Special Events Committee. She is co-
chair of Federation's Young Women's
Steering Committee and has served in
the Women's Department, in the
Young Adult Division and the
Planning Division.
She co-created the YAD Couples
Committee and was instrumental in
creating and co-chairing Shalom Baby.
She has been a member of the
Missions Committee and has been on
three of the four Miracle Missions to
Israel.
The Frank A. Wetsman Award rec-
ognizes exceptional male leadership
and service to the Jewish community.
This year's recipient is Todd Sachse,

co-chair of Federation's Real Estate
and Property Management Committee
and vice president of the Jewish
Community Center. He is president of
Sachse Construction &Development
Corp. and vice president of Broder &
Sachse Real Estate Services Inc.
Sachse has been a solicitor for

Federation's Annual Campaign and a
participant in the Odyssey Leadership
Mission. A lead volunteer for the
numerous renovation projects at the
Jewish Community Center, including
reconstruction of the Health and
Fitness Center, Sachse is also a past
recipient of the Susan Alterman Young
Leadership Award from the Jewish
Community Center.
As part of their awards, both
Silverman and Sachse will attend the
United Jewish Communities' General
Assembly next month in Cleveland.
The Mark Family Young Leadership
Award recognizes an established leader
in Federation's Young Adult Division
and takes the form of a grant to attend
the UJC Young Leadership
Conference in Washington, D.C.
Recipient Shari Wagner was co-chair
of Federation's 2004 Annual
Campaign for the Young Adult
Division, recruiting volunteers and
soliciting donors. Her solicitation
model is being adapted in other divi-
sions of the Campaign.
A vice president of Star Trax
Corporate Events, Wagner has worked
on Federation's Women's Campaign
and Partnership 2000. She serves on
the board of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek.
