IN 1943, A GRouP 01' GERMAN WOMEN FOUGI
TO SAVE TT II? LIVES OF THEIR JENVISI I HUSBANDS..
Craig's grandfather Bill Metas, execu-
tive chef at the famed Pontchartrain
Wine Cellars.
And to round out his employee list,
Mark had to have the best general man-
ager he could get for dining at both the
hotel and Hunter House Detroit ...
From Wood-Ruff's Supper Club in
Royal Oak came Martin "Skip" Scully
to handle all the food service of the
restaurants and Hilton Garden Inn's six
banquet rooms ... Plus Marc Mege, as
his catering manager ... Also from
Wood-Ruff's arrived Andy Doyle, sous
chef, and Scott Light, bartender.
At the recent Taste of the Nation,
Hunter House hamburgers were far
and away the favorite food ... running
out after thousands of sandwiches had
been taken by the long lines ... At Art,
Beats & Eats in Pontiac, more than
15,000 burgers and 16,000 orders of
fries were sold.
At lunchtime, the Hunter House
menu has six different hamburgers as
well as cheeseburgers, soup, six specialty
salads and seven other-than-hamburger
sandwiches.
Dinner at Hunter House Detroit has
delicious appetizers like a very tasty
crab cake in a delicate lump consisten-
cy, Swedish meatballs, stuffed baked
brie, etc ... Craig's entrees are with a
dining expertise you immediately can
tell are prepared by someone with
excellent culinary knowledge.
The double-rib lamb chops are
superb ... as is the oven-baked stuffed
salmon, red snapper, herb-roasted
chicken, jumbo scallops on spinach
crepes ... even a touch of the Far East
with his miso-cured halibut with
braised baby bok choy in a coconut car-
rot broth.
One of the biggest sellers is not on
the menu ... chopped steak made from
the meat served in Mark's Hunter
House hamburgers ... It's a favorite of
the Detroit Lions who practice and
play at nearby Ford Field.
The Hunter House Detroit in Mark's
Hilton Garden Inn is open for lunch
and dinner, Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-
2 a.m.; Sunday, 5-11 ... His Hunter
House American Grill serves breakfast,
lunch and dinner Monday-Sunday,
from 6 a.m.
Next time you see Mark Papazian,
keep a close eye and sort of glimpse
cagily at what he may be looking at ...
Who knows, his uncanny eagle-eye
magic might rub off.
Having his luck doesn't come any
better ... unless it's having one of Mark's
great Hunter House hamburgers.
THEY'RE LIKE SISTERS anyway,
so why not partners, too ... The former
Lapides Publicity Group, founded by
Lisa Lapides Sawicki, president, in
1986, gives itself a new name ... with
the addition of Mida Giragosian's fami-
ly title ... making it now Lapides
Publicity Giragosian ... "Her devotion
and hard work that has contributed so
much toward our success makes Mida
very deserving to be alongside my
name," says Lisa.
HARD TO IMAGINE the tremen-
dous strides that have been made by
the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of
Fame since its inception in 1984.
Monday, Nov. 1, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield, will be
the 20th anniversary induction ceremo-
ny and dinner of a group that, at the
beginning, was almost given up for
dead ... The dedicated perseverance of
founder Alvin Foon would never allow
that to happen ... resulting in it today
being one of America's most respected
halls of fame.
Lloyd Carr, University of Michigan
football coach, and wife, Laurie, will
receive this year's Alvin Foon
Humanitarian Award ... Detroit News
sports writer Jerry Green, U-M football
star Jeffrey Cohen and bowler Philip
Horowitz, with 11 perfect games in
American Bowling Congress competi-
tion, will be the inductees.
There's a 5:30 cocktail hour, silent
and live auction of sports memorabilia
... 7-9 seated dinner and awards cere-
monies.
Tickets to this always fine event are
$150 adults and $36 guys and gals up
to 17 years of age ... For ducats, call
Elayne Wolfson, (248) 788-0921.
CONGRATS ... To Blanch Duke on
her 80th birthday ... and get well wish-
es as she recuperates after a stay at
Beaumont Hospital.
MUCH FUN IN STORE as the
Food Bank of Oakland County, which
includes the kosher food pantry Yad
Ezra, receives a portion of the coming
Grub Crawl visits and Castings at vari-
ous restaurants ... 6-10 Tuesday, Oct.
19 ... About 15 dining spots are partici-
pating ... For tickets that also include
transportation to the dining spots, if
wanted, call Brenda Rogerson or
Maureen Malone at the West
Bloomfield Chamber offices, (248)
