The series follows more than a century of what columnist Walter Winchell referred to as "Baloney Boulevard." Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, writers were able to hire a team of scholars, each with his or her own spe- cial cache of little- known memorabilia. "We had to wrap our arms around tens of thousands of songs and stories," says Michael Kantor, the project's producer/director.
