Briar t Newhouse and his son, Lorne, 8,
of Wiest Bloomfield carry Torahs during
the Simchat Torah celebration.

thinking how do we make every-
one's different traditions comfort-
able."
Rabbi Cohen was pleased with
the liveliness of the celebration, say-
ing the more participants, the more
fun.
Actually, Keter Torah has been
host to B'nai Israel on Simchat
Torah in previous years, but on a
much smaller scale. "First, it was
just a group of guys," he said. "The
next year it was the whole congrega-
tion."
Members of different congrega-
tions were happy to join together.
"My family is from Shaarey
Zedek, and when we met other fam-
ilies from Shir Shalom and Keter
Torah, we were all so happy to meet
someone from one of the other syn-
agogues," said Julie Weisberg
Schlafer of West Bloomfield.
"This is a step in the right direc-
tion to foster relations with the
Jewish community as a whole, not
just one movement. What a great
way for everybody to celebrate the
Jewish holiday and being a Jew, no
matter what our synagogue or affili-
ation."
Rabbi Yanoff's hope is for the
event to take place again next year.
"This year was unbelievable," he
said.
Already thinking about the logis-
tics of a future multi-synagogue pro-
gram, he said, "We definitely want
to do it again, but next time it will
be even bigger and even better." ❑
