She immigrated to the United States from Poland. She went to night school to learn Spanish and became so proficient with the language, she worked for an Spanish-speak- ing attorney, in court situations. Before Gutman becoming a home- maker, she worked as a tax preparer in her husband's store. In 1967, following the riots, she and her husband moved to Los Angeles, where she was active in such Jewish causes as Jewish National Fund, Amit Women and Red Magen David Adom. She was a member of Temple Beth Am in Los Angeles.
