A: In funeral language, a Memorial Service

MARY "MANIA" RAIBER, 78, of
West Bloomfield, died Sept. 21, 2004.
She was a survivor of Auschwitz.

: I noticed in the Detroit News/Free Press
Sunday edition, two death notices with Jewish
stars (not your Chapel) that referred to a
"Memorial Service." How is a Memorial Service
different from a funeral service?

refers to a service in memory of someone who
has died, without the body present. There are
times when a Memorial Service is held in this
community, when a fitneral and burial have
taken place in another city. More often than not,
a Memorial Service is held when no burial is
taking place.

to be honored for vision
of recognizing individuals'
need to give back to community,
and her own local volunteer
efforts.
