IT'S NOT TOO LATE
der. Alexander's character, Tony
Kleinman, is based on Washington
Post sports columnist/ESPN broad-
caster Tony Kornheiser.
"Do I have any illusions that this
or anything I do is ever going to
become a Seinfeld phenomenon?"
Alexander says. "No. I had one. I'm
very grateful for it. And it gives me
the opportunity to do things like
this, for which I'm also very grate-
ful." (Alexander admits to being hard
to live with when he's not working.)
Fortunately for his wife and kids,
Alexander (ne Jason Greenspan) has
plenty to keep him busy. He'll be
seen as Marley's Ghost in NBC's
musical version of A Christmas Carol
on Nov. 28; he's working on a chil-
dren's book to be published next
spring; and he is active with the
Anti-Defamation League and in One
Voice, which tries to foster Israeli-
Palestinian peace talks.
On Sept. 25, Alexander will be
among the celebrities featured in
Yom Kippur: Prayers of Atonement, a
service to be broadcast on PAX TV
at 11 a.m.

GARY GULMAN
"Last Comic Standing"; NBC; 8 p.m.
Tuesdays; premiered Aug. 30.
With witty observations on topics
ranging from family to cookies to his
6-foot-6-inch height, Gary Gulman
won enough viewers' votes on the sec-
ond season of Last Comic Standing to
make it to the final three.
The Boston-born comedian is now
competing in the Season I vs. Season
II challenge while doing standup gigs
all over the country
"I'm no funnier than I was a few
months ago, but suddenly I'm booked
every weekend in really nice clubs,"
says Gulman. "Television is very pow-
erful."
Although he'd earned an accounting
degree from Boston College, Gulman
opted to do odd jobs while honing his
comedy chops, which his parents
deemed "a little meshuggah."
But after six years of dues paying
and with the help of established
comedians like David Brenner,
Gulman is making a name for himself.
