PAGE 3 I AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2004 Spirits bloom in Brown Center Gardens Therapeutic Gardening or Horticultural Therapy provides physical and psychological benefits. These benefits include relaxation, lowered stress, social involvement, mental stimulation, enhanced self-esteem and improved motor skills and flexibility. As plants depend on our participants to care for them, our participants feel useful and productive caring for our gardens. ■ ENHANCING Therapeutic Garden Thanks to the generous support of Margaret Demant and Ellen Kahn, the Walter and Erna Herz Garden in West Bloomfield has been re-designed by Master Gardener MaryCarole Haering and a crew of volunteers to offer more opportunities for therapeutic gardening. The garden is more accessible to all participants and includes a butterfly garden and a smelling and touching bed. ■ Your generous donation to the Dorothy and Peter Brown Jewish Community Adult Day Care Program makes a difference!
