tion by national media as one of the
nation's best pizza operations.
The late Detroit Free Press columnist
Bob Talbert probably told it best when
he wrote, "Is Buddy's the best pizza? It
sure is, because it is the one that all the
others are compared to."
Pizza is king at Buddy's ... but it is also
no slouch as a full-service restaurant.
SHE MUST HAVE known some-
thing ... with her employees given
umbrellas a couple of weeks ago as
employee appreciation gifts ... Many of
them worked at the recent Walk of Ages
with Fleischman Residence administra-
tor Barbara Giles, who was our dandy
point-person/assistant.
The raindrops kept the count down
from about 300 to around 100, but did-
n't stop diehards like Cheryl Chodun of
WXYZ-TV, Judge Susan Moiseev, Dell
Warner of WDIV-TV, "Big Al"
Muskovitz of 104.3 FM, and Judge Ed
Sosnick, who all walked the 3K with us.
Excellent job of coordinating by Geri
Margolis, Carole Rosenberg, etc. ... and
the gals are already talking about anoth-
er walk soon ... Maybe for. this next one,
they'll have Barbara talk to the person
upstairs to make sure it doesn't sprinkle
that day.
TRINGALE'S NEW YORK Pizza &
Deli, on 12 Mile east of Orchard Lake
Road, in Farmington Hills has been sold
by Gary Tringale ... New owner Nick
Lulgjuraj has retained the restaurant's
name and menu.
SEPTEMBER ISSUE of 2004 Bon
Appetit magazine, which annually lists its
top restaurants, has Jeremy Restaurant
& Bar in Keego Harbor in the Where
To Eat Now for New Retro Desserts sec-
tion ... It is recognized for "smart, yet
down-to earth sweets like berry trifle
with mango saboyon and angel food
cake."
ANSWER DEPT ... Name of the
new Japanese restaurant opening in West
Bloomfield will be Yotsuba, at the for-
mer site of Gadjoen in Robin's Nest on
Orchard Lake Road ... Can't figure it out
myself, that sign outside a local super-
market, "Please select a cart before enter-
ing store" ... since the grocery buggies
are all inside ... Restaurant with
Vietnamese and Malaysian cuisine may
open in the West Bloomfield sector.
HERE'S A FORGOTTEN name,
brought up by Benno Levi, that might
be considered for posthumous entrance
into the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of
Fame ... Not for helping with the biggest
game he ever played in, but because
World War II came when the Detroit
Tigers were sending him to Beaumont
of the Texas League ... prior to his being
brought up by the parent club in
Detroit by premier Tiger scout Wish
Egan.
Frankie Faudem was one of the finest
athletes to come out of Central High ...
and a minor league standout who pre-
ferred to sign his contract with the
hometown Detroit Tigers rather than
accept offers from the St. Louis Browns
and Cleveland Indians.
Frankie was killed at Leyte in the
Pacific.

CULINARY CAPSULE ... The out-
side is very deceiving and its interior
looks like an altogether different site
than previously ... After numerous tries
at ethnic dining, the location has
become a general family dining restau-
rant with a broad menu and low prices.
Now called Louie's Country Kitchen,
on Orchard Lake Road between Middle-
belt and Cass Lake Road in Sylvan Lake,
its exterior gives the impression of being
a large restaurant ... The inside has
about the same 90-or-so seating as
before, but mirrored walls give it a big-
ger look.
Louie's Country Kitchen opened this
past February and has gained family din-
ing popularity because of its cleanliness,
fresh, wholesome food and low prices.
It is open seven days, Sunday-
Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and
Saturday, 7-11.
