Jammin' On Shabbat

Hebrew Study For All

The Lifelong Learning program of
the Jewish Federation of Metropoli-
tan Detroit's Alliance for Jewish
Education will start its fall Hebrew
program for students on all levels,
beginning the week of Sept. 19.
Classes from beginners conversa-
tional Hebrew to advanced Hebrew
language and literature classes are
being offered. The classes will be
taught by qualified, experienced
Hebrew teachers and will be held at
the Max M. Fisher Federation
Building, 6735 Telegraph Road,
Bloomfield Township.
The cost of the courses includes all
materials. The Hebrew Department
of the Alliance for Jewish Education
also has a selection of Hebrew materi-
als for independent study.

enjoyed the kick-off of
Shabbat Jams at Temple Beth Shalom

Aug. 27.
The student-led Friday night
service combined spirituality with
prayer and music. The synagogue's
youth choir and orchestra infused
energy that got everyone participat-
ing.
Shabbat Jams is under the direc-
tion of David Appelman, Beth
Shalom's new Family Life coordina-
tor, who is dedicated to engaging

the congregation through music.
Plans call for the Shabbat Jams
program to continue and grow, and
the choir and orchestra is always
looking for new members,
Appelman says.
Shabbat Jams is open to the
community. The next service is
planned for Nov. 19.

Registrations are being taken for the
fall semester of lifelong learning class-
es being offered by the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's
Alliance for Jewish Education that
begins the week of Sept. 20.
"Priests, Prophets and Kings: The
First Book of Samuel" will be offered
Wednesdays 10:30-noon taught by
Rabbi Rod Glogower. He will also
teach "Inside the Rabbinic Mind," an
exploration of Talmud. It will be
offered Tuesdays 10:30 a.m.-noon
and Wednesdays 7:30-9 p.m.
Students can register for either sec-
tion.
The Judaica classes meet for 12
weeks and are held at the Max M.
Fisher Federation Building, 6735
Telegraph Road, Bloomfield
Township. There is a charge.
