Jerusalem's Joel Frajnd saw
another opportunity to help
his country, and he took it. Following
in his older brother's footsteps, he
came to America with the Israeli
Traveling Gallery to represent Israeli
artists and combat the decrease in
tourism to Israel by bringing Israeli art
to Americans.
The Israeli Traveling Gallery was at
Ann Arbor's Temple Beth Emeth Aug.
26-27. Customers were treated to a
full array of Israeli art, from intricate
metal figures and elegant Star of
David travel Shabbat candlesticks, to
silk-screened prints of paintings and
beautifully woven tallitot (prayer
shawls) and bags.

made aliyah only a year ago and yet
she's already back in America repre-
senting artists from her new home.
She also saw this as a great opportuni-
ty to support Israel.
Representatives, like Frajnd and
Wilson, travel so the artists can remain
in Israel, immersed in their particular
art forms. Because of the dwindling
number of tourists in Israel, these
artists depend on revenue from
abroad.
The large number of representatives
at the Ann Arbor fair allowed for close
personal contact with customers.
Because the fair was held on weekdays,
attendance at any given time was low,
however, overall attendance was good
and the representatives considered the
fair a success.
