MORRIS "BOB" MEDALIE, 86, of West Bloomfield, died Aug. 28, 2004. As a pediatrician, he performed the first transfusions for RH Factor and he also taught new pediatric students. He was a member of Temple Israel and many of its study groups as well as the Jewish Community Center. The Jewish News wrote a cover story on Dr. Medal ie in 1977. He belonged to many and-apartheid groups and was a past chairman of the Cystic Fibrosis Society. Dr. Medalie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Medalie of West Bloomfield; sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell Medalie of West Bloomfield, James and Lynn Medalie of Blooms- burg, Pa.; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Dennis Shapiro of West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Brent Shapiro, Allison Shapiro, Susan Medal ie and Philip Medalie; sister and brother-in-law, Rhoda and Alec Berman of Australia; sister-in-law, Vera Medalie. Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel. HELEN IKKA OHRENSTEIN, 82, former Detroiter of Sarasota, Fla., died Aug. 15, 2004. Born in Poland, she immigrated to the United States in 1946. During the Nazi occu- pation of Poland, she smir led arms and munitions to partisans. In Germany in 1946, she married Bernard Ohrenstein, also a Holocaust survivor. They both worked in their store, Bernard Jewelry, which was in Detroit, then Southfield and then in Sarasota. Mrs. Ohrenstein is survived by her husband, Bernard; children, David Ohrenstein of Sarasota, Peggy Bauer of Andover, Mass., Michael Ohrenstein of Sarasota; seven grandchildren; brother- in-law, George Ohrenstein.
