At the game, Berman recalled the date marked the 50th anniversary of his at-bats against Hall of Fame Dodger pitcher Sandy Koufax. "I was a catcher on the Wayne State University baseball team and we went to Cincinnati for a playoff game against the University of Cincinnati, where Koufax was a student and star pitcher," Berman said. "We had heard a lot about Koufax," Berman continued, "and he was every- thing we heard about and more. Koufax struck me out and the only time I hit the ball fairly, I popped out."
