BARBARA BERMAN DOBKIN is an internationally recognized pioneer in the Jewish community as
an advocate for Jewish women. She is Founder and Chair of Ma'yan, the Jewish Women's Project, and the
immediate past Chair of the Board of the Jewish Women's Archive in Brookline, Massachusetts. She sits on
the boards of numerous organizations that promote Jewish women's causes and is a generous supporter of a
variety of Jewish and secular non-profits. Her name is synonymous with efforts to improve the lives of
Jewish women and girls and to recognize the strength of women as an important resource in the community.
She speaks nationally on the issues of women's philanthropy and leadership.

Those interested in doing a good deed
for the community are invited to partic-
ipate in the _Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit's annual Itsa
Mitzvah Day on Sunday, Sept. 19.
The event begins at 12:30 with a
kosher lunch and orientation.
Volunteers will then go to work at vari-
ous Jewish agencies and volunteer sites.
Assignments will include visiting older
adults and people with disabilities,
working at a food bank, sukkah build-
ing, gardening and helping with other
community projects.
Kids and families are welcome. The
program will end by 3:30 p.m.
Itsa Mitzvah Day is sponsored by
Federation's Campaign and Education
Department in corporate partnership
with Unique Restaurant Corporation. It
is a program of Federation's Volunteer
Network. Co-chairs are Sherri Ketai and
Sarah Krasnick; associate chairs are
Joanne Aronavitz and Stefany Freeman.

Remembrance Service Set
Clover. Hill Park Cemetery and
Congregation Shaarey Zedek will hold
"Time of Remembrance," a service and
program to be held at 2 p.m. Sunday,
Aug. 29, in the chapel at the
Birmingham cemetery.
Rabbi Joseph Krakoff, Rabbi Jonathan
Berkun, Rabbi Eric Yanoff and Cantor
Chaim Najman will conduct a brief
memorial service.
Immediately following, families and
friends will proceed to gravesites of their
departed for a special prayer and the
placing of small stones on the graves.
Individual prayer booklets will be avail-
able.
