Marion Freedman, newly promoted to
director of the Jewish Federation
Women's Campaign and Education
Department, won the 2004 Mandell L.
and Madeleine H. Berman Award,
which recognizes outstanding contribu-
tions of communal professionals
employed by the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, its agencies and
beneficiaries.
Presentation was
made at the August
meeting of the com-
bined boards of the
Jewish Federation
and United Jewish
Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit
Federation.
Freedman
Recently promoted
from senior associate
in Federation's Planning Department,
Freedman brings 15 years of expertise
working on behalf of the Jewish corn-
munity with groups of all backgrounds.
Freedman was the director of

Federation's Neighborhood Project, an
Oak Park-Southfield community
enhancement program. She is a past
president of Temple Beth El and 1999
recipient of Federation's Avrunin Award
for Professional Development.

Tamarack Elects Board

The Fresh Air Society, Tamarack Camps
annual meeting was held on Aug. 1 at
Camp Maas in Ortonville.
The following were elected as officers
to the board of directors: Ronald
Sollish, president; Brian Kepes, first vice
president; Frank Ellias, vice president;
Darren Findling, treasurer; Mark Adler,
secretary.
Elected for a first three-year term to
the board of directors are: Susan
Langnas Feber, Fabio Giske, Arik
Green, Barbara Kappy, Susan
Lichterman, Howard Morof, Matthew
Roth, Jo Segal, and Jeffrey Sternberg.
Elected to a second three-year term are

ingly random event also seemed strangely meaning-
ful, even miraculous. Small miracles happen every
day; it is up to us to open ourselves to receiving them
and understanding their meaning.

As we approach Chanukah, we commemorate the
miracle of the light that endured for eight days, and
we are asking you to share your personal miracle, or
epiphany or extraordinary coincidence, whatever
you choose to call one of life's inexplicable events. In
