Regarding the Other Views piece "Bush
Is Not Respected" about President
George W. Bush (Aug. 13, page 24) , let
us ask the question, "Not respected by
whom?"
Not respected by France's Jacques
Chirac, Russian Vladimir Putin,
Germany's Gerhard Schroeder — all
implicated in the despicable Iraqi oil-
for-food program? Not respected by the
Palestinians or the nefarious leaders of
the Middle East like Syria's Bashar al-
Assad and the myriad ayatollahs? I most
certainly respect George W. Bush.
I may not agree with all the presi-
dent's domestic policies, but I surely
respect his commitment to battle
Islamic fundamentalism and the terror-
ism it foments.
George W. Bush understands the
clear and present danger that Islamic
fundamentalism poses to every free
nation in the world. George W. Bush
understands the cast of characters and
how they each profit by terrorism and
anti-Americanism.

hammer and join Yasser Arafat in nail-
ing the coffin shut on the world's only
Jewish state and the only democracy in
a sea of tyranny.
The recent United Nations General
Assembly vote seeking to dismantle
Israel's security fence, which passed 150-
9, is a perfect example of what you get
in a world where the will of despots and
diplomatic expediency trumps morality
and justice.
The next time you hear someone
advocating more "even-handedness" or
"honest-brokering" in our dealings
between Palestinians and Israelis, what
they are really saying is that we should
treat democracies and dictatorships
alike.
Look no farther then the General
Assembly vote for the logical conclusion
of just such a policy. In the words of
Israel's ambassador to the U.N., Dan
Gillerman, "Thank God that the fate of
Israel and of the Jewish people is not
decided in this hall."
I would also add, thank God that
President Bush has both the moral clari-
ty and moral courage to stand alone in
this world to support freedom and
democracy. I can only hope that the
future of Israel will continue to be influ-
enced by his conviction and resolve.
