"Both my parents were perform-
ers," says Blum, who appeared local-
ly in the Michigan Opera Theatre
production of Orpheus and the
Underworld and auto industrial
shows. "My dad, Al Blum, was a
vaudevillian standup comedian and
later Pinky Lee's straight man. My
mother, Beatrice Blum, was a dancer
in Las Vegas nightclubs and was in a
tap act that opened for Dean
Martin."
Learning dancing from his morn,
Blum showed off Broadway choreog-
raphy in 42nd Street, which claimed
four years of his early career. He
worked two years as a dancer in
Debbie Reynolds's nightclub act.
"I'm a golfer and would like to
have more time to play," says Blum,
beyond his 40th birthday and
recalling Jewish grandparents who
came to America from Eastern
Europe long before the family
entered show business. "Chris
Sutton, viho also performs in Golf
is from Michigan, and he promises
to take us around the area and
maybe to golf courses." E

Golf he also is working on a one-
man show with cast member Joel
Blum.
"This revue is good, silly fun,
even though we still pay a little rev-
erence to the game," Blum says.
"One of my roles is a guy who works
really hard at the office but has the
dream of being a scratch golfer. In
the number 'Scratch Golfer,' he is
on the job, dreams about playing
and all of a sudden starts rolling up
and hitting pieces of paper while
thinking about being outside.
"I worked in a similar format
AArith an Off-Broadway production of
Kander and Ebb's And the World
Goes Round. Everything else I've
done has been traditional with a
story line."
Blum, whose Golf performances
made him a Drama Desk Award
nominee for Outstanding Featured
Actor in a Musical, has worked on
Broadway in The Music Man, Show
Boat and Steel Pier, getting Tony
nominations for the latter two plays.
