tration to hold Arab countries
accountable for their newspaper arti-
cles, for their anti-Semitism, for their
conspiracy theories, to stop the fund-
ing that goes to Hezbollah, to Al Aqsa
Brigade, to Hamas, has not made the
world safer and has not protected
Israel."
• The author states, "American
Jewish voters cannot risk voting for
Kerry who will put the security of
Israel and America at risk."
Fact: The best reply to this is
Kerry's statement to B'nai Kith when
he said, "My deep commitment is to
continue to do as I've done for the 35
years since I've been in public life and
20 years in the Senate — to continue
to fight for Israel, for a safe, secure,
democratic Jewish State of Israel. And
that commitment is absolutely unwa-
vering."
Another key fact to consider is the
powerful pro-Israel detail contained in
the Democratic Party platform, writ-
ten to mirror the policy priorities of
the party's candidate, Sen. Kerry.
Despite being only 40 pages long, the
platform goes into unprecedented
detail about the Democratic Party's
unshakeable com-
mitment to Israel
— including specif-
ically renouncing
any Palestinian
right of return, and
pointing out that
Israel cannot be
expected to return
to its original
boundaries. This
Kerry
actually places in the
Democratic Party
platform pledges that President Bush
has put forth and then stepped back
from.
At the recent National Democratic
Convention, I met with several top
Kerry foreign policy advisers, among
them his brother Cameron Kerry and
former U.S. Rep. Mel Levine.
Cameron Kerry, a convert to Judaism
whose Jewish wife is from Detroit, has
recently visited Israel with AIPAC
members and is strongly supportive of
Israel. Mel Levine is Kerry's senior
adviser on Middle East Affairs and
was for many years a board member
of AIPAC; he is a committed friend of
Israel. Both stated that the American
Jewish community should be assured
that John Kerry would never yield to
foreign pressure and is firmly commit-
ted to a safe and secure Israel.
I returned from the convention feel-
ing very comfortable about voting for
John Kerry. ❑
