Preceded by registration at 8:15 a.m.
and warm-ups at 8:45, Walk of Ages
will start at 9 a.m. (rain or shine)
between the Fleischman Residence and
Danto Center and cover a route
around the Eugene and Marcia
Applebaum Jewish Community
Campus in West Bloomfield. Walkers
can do the minimum 3K distance (1.8
miles) or go the maximum 5K (3.1
miles) if they wish. Snacks will be
served at the finish line.
Cost is $18 per person in advance or
520 on Aug. 29, including a T-shirt;
$36 for a family (two adults and four
children) in advance or $40 on the day
of the event, with two shirts; and $125
for a team of five, with five shirts or
$130 at the event.
Walkers can earn incentive prizes by
getting family and friends to sponsor
their walk. Sponsor opportunities for
companies and individuals range from
$5,000 for a title sponsor to $180 for
a lawn sign on a special Dedication
Lane along the route.
The JHAS Auxiliary has been assist-
ing the community's elderly residents
for 79 years. Ongoing projects include
birthday gifts for residents,
Chanukkah gifts, synagogue and din-
ing room flowers at holiday time,
"out" trips, bingo and other inside
programs, and assistance at the nosh
nook and gift shop. The auxiliary
recently pledged $100,000 to the
Design for Dignity campaign for the
renovation of the Fleischman
Residence and Blumberg Plaza. ❑
