expanded route, new celebrity
walkers and a famous grand
marshal will highlight the second annual
Walk of Ages community walkathon
Sunday, Aug. 29, sponsored by the
Jewish Home & Aging Services
Auxiliary, the ElderLink Network of
Services and the Jewish News. The event
helps provide services for elderly resi-
dents of Fleischman Residence and
Danto Family Health Care Center in
West Bloomfield and Menorah House
in Southfield.
' "We had 200 walkers and 32 sponsors
and raised $40,000 last year," said chair-
person Geri Margolis of West
Bloomfield, who also is past president of
the auxiliary. "We hope to attract many
more people and sponsors this year —
and bring in more funds to help ensure
the highest standards of support for eld-

chairperson of the walk and has been
invited to participate. Jewish News
columnist Danny Raskin is grand mar-
shal. Raskin, 85, who has been writing
his column of restaurant reviews and
local news tidbits for 62 years, said he is
"pleased and honored to serve as grand
marshal," and he hopes to walk the
route like everyone else, not ride in a
golf cart.
"Elderly people today are healthier
and act younger than their counterparts
in the old days because they exercise, eat
better and have completely different
lifestyles," Raskin said. "Back then,
many of them retired early and sat in
rocking chairs."
Raskin, who has "absolutely no plans
to retire," eats in restaurants about four
times a week to obtain information for
his The Best of Everything column and
stays active in community organizations
and charities. As grand marshal of Walk

The Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic
Studies has moved from Manoogian
Hall to 2311 Faculty Administration
Building.
The facility is stocked with the latest
books, journals and interactive media in
the field of Jewish studies. The Judaica
Resource Center is open to students and

faculty, as well as interested members of
the community, to do research, partici-
pate in seminars or simply to read and
relax.
Of particular significance is the newly
acquired Jewish Heritage Video
Collection — a collection of nearly 200
films of Jewish interest. The collection
was made possible through a donation
by Mrs. Martha R. Loeffler in memory
