He graduated from Wayne State University and was a federal govern- ment employee with many agencies, the last being the Drug Enforcement Administration in Arlington, Va., where he was a program analyst. He is survived by his parents, Lydia and Barton Cohn of Westland; wife, Deborah; many relatives and friends. BELLE FREEDMAN, 94, of Southfield, died Aug. 8, 2004. She was married to Hymen Freedman, who founded the Detroit Kosher Butchers Union; she was a partner in • her husband's business until his death in 1958. For many years after- ward, she was a familiar and friendly face behind the counter at several Oak Park drug stores including Hammerstein's, Belle Drug and Dot Drug, all in the Nine Mile Road and Coolidge area. As a charter resident of the Jewish Federation Apartments on the Jewish Community Campus in West Bloomfield, Mrs. Freedman served as president of the Hechtman Residents Association for the first 10 years of its existence and was the catalyst in the successful drive to win bus serv- ice for seniors in the area. Those efforts included testifying before county and state committees. She was honored for her tireless work with a proclamation from the state of Michigan. For her many efforts on behalf of services for seniors, she was also honored with an Eight Over 80 award, celebrating community activities by Detroit area senior citi- zens over 80 years old.
