Gloria and Edward Meer will receive the
Distinguished Humanitarian Service
Award of the American Red Magen
David for Israel at the Dr. John J.
Mames Chapter Michigan Region annu-
al dinner dance 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept.
12, at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Proceeds will be used for medical
emergency equipment for the new
Natalie and Manny Charach Magen
David Adorn Emergency Medical
Center in Ashdod, Israel.
The Meers are being honored for their
efforts and support of the life saving and
humanitarian programs of Magen David
Adorn, Israel's national, emergency med-
ical, blood and ambulance service, and
for their lifelong involvement and phil-
anthropic support of charitable, social,
cultural and educational causes locally
and in Israel.
Beneficiaries include two Meer Jewish
Apartments for senior residents, the Bais
Chabad Torah Center of North Oak
Park and a gymnasium for Yeshivat
Akiva. They also purchased a building
for Yad Ezra, a new office for Jewish
Hospice of Michigan, a building for the
Friendship Circle, a gymnasium for
Yeshiva Beth Yehudah and the Norma
Jean and Edward Meer preschool nurs-
ery for 200 children. They remodeled
Yeshivat Darchei Torah.

Newman and Dr. Margo Woll are din-
ner co-chairs.
