Hiller's Mitzvot
I just wanted to thank Jim Hiller for
allowing us a very painless and easy
way to show our support for Israel
("Shop For Israel," July 16, page 17;
"Protest Backfires," July 23, page 21).
Not every Jew is able to contribute
to the Israeli cause with donations, or
even with the pleasure of visiting—
but we all have to eat! Buying gro-
ceries at Hiller's gives us varieties we
don't have at other stores and, most
importantly, a way to walk out feeling
as though we have contributed to the
cause.
Backing Jim Hiller can allow us to
share in his courage and principles.

BUSINESS OFFICESf
Terrorists entering into Israel from the
West Bank have killed nearly 1,000
innocent Israeli citizens in the past
four years, typically targeting women
and children.
The Israeli government has repeat-
edly attempted to negotiate with
Palestinian leaders to disarm known
terrorist groups and to employ sub-
stantial measures to rein in those bent
on terror. Instead, Palestinian leaders
did nothing to slow down the car-
nage.
No civilized nation would or should
stand idle while their citizens are
slaughtered at the hands of suicide
bombers. The "fence" that Israel is
constructing is designed with one
purpose in mind — to protect its
people from terrorists ("Moral
Europe?" July 23, page 27).
Those who propagandize against
Israel's right to self-defense steadfastly
support Palestinian terrorist groups by
accepting their primary goal and
objective — the annihilation of the
State of Israel. Otherwise, why would-
n't those who are protesting the
"fence" call for the disarming of
Palestinian militant groups and vocif-
erously renounce the murder of inno-
cent Israeli civilians? That would be
the least one would expect from those
allegedly seeking peace.
Israel has a moral obligation to pro-
tect its citizens. To expect anything
less is naive, irresponsible and unreal-
istic.
