Akiva Enlarges Center

Yeshivat Akiva has expanded its Early
Childhood Center to include a separate
half-day and full-day program for 3-
year-olds and an
additional class for
4-year-olds.
Class sizes are
small to allow for a
hands-on, child-cen-
tered learning expe-
rience in a Jewish
environment.
Specialties include
Raz
Hebrew immersion,
library story time,
music and gym. The half-day program
runs from 8:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and
includes lunchtime; the full-day pro-
gram runs from 8:15 a.m.-3:40 p.m.
Latchkey is offered mornings begin-
ning at 7:30 a.m. Monday through
Friday and evenings Monday through
Thursdays ending at 5:30 p.m.
Programs for toddlers and parent
enrichment classes will be offered
throughout the year. The Yeshivat Akiva
Early Childhood Center is coordinated
by a newly appointed director, Beth
Raz. Staff includes Beth Isaacs, Aviva
Gardin and Amy Kraft. The school is at

Parents Sample Melton

A sampling of Jewish learning at the
Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is
set for "A Taste of Melton," an informa-
tional session Tuesday, Aug. 10, 10-
11:30 a.m., at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield and
Wednesday, Aug. 4,
7-8:30 p.m., at the Max M. Fisher
Federation Building, 6735 Telegraph
Road in Bloomfield Township.
In partnership with Adat Shalom
Synagogue, the Melton school now
offers a new curriculum geared for par-
ents of young children enrolled in
Jewish preschools or in kindergarten
through second grade in day schools.
The Florence Melton Parent Education
Program (PEP) is an adaptation of the
existing program. Tuition is subsidized
through a grant from the Avi Chai
Foundation. The Florence Melton
Adult Mini- School is sponsored by the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education
and the JCC.
Classes for both programs will begin
