Adelman's portraits will be shown Aug. 5-
Sept. 29 at the Janice Charach Epstein Gallery
in West Bloomfield, where "Different Strokes:
Michigan Painters" also will feature the
abstract renderings of Marcia Freedman and
the computer images of Michelle Hegyi.
Almost simultaneously, there will be a fund-
raising silent auction of works donated to the gallery by vari-
ous artists, with bids ending Sept. 23.
Adelman's oil paintings, sculpture and jewelry will be on
view Sept. 2-30 at the Southfield Public Library, where they
will be divided among three floors for a solo presentation.
"I'm really excited about showing 12 of my paintings at the
gallery," says Adelman, 62, who recently had her work on
view at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. "The group I
will have in West Bloomfield started with paintings based on
a family photo album. From those projects, I became interest-
ed in contemporary portraits.
"I've found that painting forces me to
see things I would not have expected, and I
capture the nuances of personality and atti-
tudes in the people who are depicted.
Although the portraits have people as the
dominant images, I look to the surround-
ings to help tell stories."
