too much bickering and disrespect
among board members; we need more
teamwork to get things accom-
plished."
Like other candidates, she says it's
necessary to improve and repair the
environmental infrastructure, specifi-
cally the water and sewer system. We
have to address these issues by focus-
ing on 'smart building' within our
existing environmental infrastructure,"
meaning all township redevelopment
should be done according to the best
interests of the environment.
O'Connor added that community
environmental education and aware-
ness can be done through organized
sessions and work groups.

O'Connor Profile
O'Connor, who
declined to giver her
age, is a 14-year
West Bloomfield res-
ident and a supervi-
sor of information
technology at Ford
O'Connor
Motor Company.
She and her hus-
band, J. Andrew
O'Connor, have one daughter. He is
running for the West Bloomfield Parks
and Recreation Commission. She went
to high school in Detroit and graduated
from Detroit College of Business (now
Davenport University) with a Bachelor
of Science degree in computer applica-
tions. She serves on the Lakes Area
Advisory Council and on the board of
the Middle Straits Lake Improvement
Association. She won the Michigan
Honor Roll Award for her involvement
in West Bloomfield environmental activ-
ities.
Catherine Shaughnessy, Democrat
As a 10-year member and current sec-
retary of the township's Wetlands
Review Board, Shaughnessy is strongly
committed to conservation, and feels a
positive, clear-cut vision is needed on
environmental matters. We also must
focus on repairing the current infrastruc-
ture before we spend money on new
things," she stated.
With West Bloomfield 95 percent
developed, we have to improve what we
have — make our quality of life better."
She wants to ease traffic congestion by
developing ways to move vehicles
around more efficiently. "To help solve
some of our problems, we should take
advantage of the collective intelligence of
our residents and brainstorm ideas," she
said.
Shaughnessy decried promotions and
raises among city employees while "we're
under a hiring freeze."
Shaughnessy Profile
Shaughnessy, 47, a
homemaker, moved
to West Bloomfield
when she got married
16 years ago. She and
her husband, Tom, a
manufacturing engi-
neer, have four chil-
Shaughnessy
dren. She's active in
the West Bloomfield
Friends of Parks and Recreation, the
Walled Lake School District PTA's, the

Robert Spector, Democrat
Spector asks voters to "get involved
with their community and examine the
issues. Don't take the easy way out and
vote your party or vote for the incum-
bents because you may feel they have
more experience. Learn the issues, ask
questions, and check the board of
trustees voting record, and you may
regret who you voted for or not voted
for.
He charged that the township is
"spending recklessly," and criticized the
majority of the board members for giv-
ing themselves a raise in salary and bene-
fits after the last election. He said the
Tri-City Fire Department merger would
cost taxpayers "many millions of dollars
over the next years."
He took issue with the Republican
incumbents on the board and praised
Democrats Flaisher and Brickner, the
latter being "a friend of over 50 years."
