nephew Ira Zaltz, son-in-law of her sister
and brother-in-law, Diane and Emery
Klein of Southfield. The Glickmans also
were happy to be with her dad and step-
mother, Sam and Mildred Yura of
Farmington Hills.
Rhoda Glickman, former staff director
of the Congressional Arts Caucus to
keep legislators informed about issues
relevant to the arts, majored in broad-
casting and theater arts at the University
of Michigan and was confirmed at
Temple Israel, where she and her hus-
band were married.
"This appointment has been very
exciting for our family," she says. "My
husband and I often took our two chil-
dren (Jonathan, 34, and Amy, 31) to
the movies as they were growing up, and
I think that's how my son got the strong _
interest that led to his becoming a pro-
ducer. Each time my husband ran for
office, our family spent election day at
the movies. Instead of sitting around the
house waiting for results, we had fun
watching films."
The Glickmans say their current
favorite movies are the ones made by
their son, who lives in California with
his wife and toddler. They also take
pride in the career path of their daugh-
ter, who does public relations work for a
clothing company in New York.
"My dad's a film buff, so I know he
loves the world that he's entering," says
Jonathan Glickman, a University of
Michigan English graduate who is work-
ing on three new films and has pro-
duced Shanghai Noon, Rush Hour and
Groist Pointe Blank. "He's very even tern-
pered and listens well, so I know he will
get along with the people in the film
industry."
Aside from taking fatherly pride in
his son's films, Glickman has many
other favorites — The Godfather,
Ghandi, Schindler's List and Animal
House, which reminded him of his
years as a member of Sigma Alpha Mu
("Sammy") at the University of
Michigan.
Among Glickman's recent viewings
has been Michael Moore's Fahrenheit
9/11, which he thought was an interest-
ing piece of entertainment and clearly a
work of advocacy. The new appointee
also categorizes The Passion of the Christ
as a work of advocacy.
While noting the attention gained by
both films, Glickman believes most
people go to the movies to enjoy them-
selves and have a good time.
"My goal is to do what I can to try to
build consensus among the folks in this
industry," Glickman says. "Building
consensus served me well during my
years in Congress and when I was at
the Department of Agriculture." ❑
