WE PROUDLY ENDORSE

For U.S. Congress
9th District
Democrat

Lathrup Village. Her bankruptcy fil-
ing in 2002 was mentioned in news
articles about Woods.
Mannarino Thompson, 44, is
unapologetic about the bankruptcy.
"My husband lost
his business," she
says, and it should
have nothing to
do with the judge-
ship race.
She is a trial
attorney with
Sherbow &
Mitchell in
Pleasant Ridge.
Thompson
She is a graduate
of Dearborn
Heights Riverside High, Michigan
State and Wayne State universities.
The family has lived in Lathrup
Village for eight years and their three
children attend Catholic school and
Southfield public schools.
She and her husband are active in
many community organizations and,
prior to her 18 years as a trial lawyer,
she worked in the offices of the
Legislative Corrections Ombudsman
and for Rep. Perry Bullard.
She also has a Web site:
ww.votemaria.org

Bar Ratings

More difficult to explain may be the
fact that Mannarino Thompson
missed the deadline for filing infor-
mation with the Oakland County
Bar Association. Based on the infor-
mation, interviews and background
checks, the county bar issues influen-
tial ratings of the candidates.
Because she missed the deadline,
Mannarino Thompson was rated
"failed to participate." She counters
that it is unfair to hold that against
her because she is juggling three
careers: lawyer, mother and candi-
date.
Woods was rated "not qualified"
and Cooper was rated "outstand-
ing."
