Arab Bank Under Fire
New York/JTA — U .S. victims of
Palestinian terrorism are suing a
Jordanian bank in New York.
Five American families whose
loved ones were killed by Palestinian
terrorists filed a lawsuit in federal
court in New York against the Arab
Bank for allegedly laundering money
to Palestinian terrorist groups.
The suit accuses the bank of "aid-
ing and abetting" murder by disburs-
ing money to families of suicide
bombers and aiding Palestinian ter-
rorist organizations and their charity
front groups.
Glickman Gets Job
More Israel and national news at vvwvvjewish.com
anti-Semitism.
The two bodies plan to focus their
efforts on education through the cre-
ation of such teaching tools as a cur-
riculum on the Holocaust and back-
ground on anti-Semitism.
The decision follows a panel dis-
cussion held at Yad Vashem, Israel's
Holocaust memorial, on how to
approach a perceived rise in anti-
Semitism worldwide. Panelists
included Abraham Foxman, national
director of the ADL, and Yehuda
Bauer, academic adviser to Yad
Vashem.
Not Just Koufax
Washington/JTA — Dan Glickman, a
Jewish former congressman and sec-
retary of agriculture, will oversee a
powerful Hollywood lobbying group.
Glickman was named July 1 as
chairman of the Motion Picture
Association of America, replacing
Jack Valenti, who held the position
for more than 38 years.
•
Before serving in President
Clinton's Cabinet, Glickman repre-
sented Kansas in Congress from
1977-1995. The father of a movie
producer, he lobbied for the Walt
Disney Co. after leaving government
service.
New York/JTA — Jewish baseball
players, not just star pitcher Sandy
Koufax, will be celebrated at base-
ball's Hall of Fame.
The celebration will take place
Aug. 29-30 at the Hall of Fame
museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. The
event was spurred by the publication
of a 143-card set of Jewish major lea-
guers developed by Martin
Abramowitz, a baseball fan *and exec-
utive at the Boston Jewish federa-
tion. Some former Jewish major lea-
guers are expected to attend.
The cards are available with a
donation to the American Jewish
Historical Society. More information

Fighting Anti-Semitism
Netanyahu An Inspiration
Jerusalem/JTA— The Anti-
Defamation League and Yad Vashem
will join forces in the fight against
Jerusalem/JTA — Iraq's new president
said he was inspired to pursue a
career in politics by Benjamin
Netanyahu.
Ghazi Al-Yawer told the Arabic
newspaper A-Sharq Al-Awsat last
week that his interest in a political
career was sparked when he watched
a television program on the life of
Netanyahu, who twice interrupted
his studies_to serve in the Israeli
army at war. -
"Ever since, I pledged to work
toward establishing a regime in Iraq
where the people of Iraq can love
their country and sacrifice for it, as
did Netanyahu," he said.
Ultimatum For Arafat
Jerusalem/JTA — The diplomatic
Quartet told Yasser Arafat to reform
Palestinian Authority security servic-
es or risk losing international sup-
port.
"Arafat must reduce his dozen or
so security forces to three, change all
corrupt security bosses, change the
interior minister and empower the
prime minister," a Western diplomat
told Reuters as representatives of the
United States, United Nations,
European Union and Russia met in
Jerusalem.
"Everybody now is sick and tired
of empty talk, and there is total disil-
lusion with the Palestinian
Authority," the diplomat said.
The four mediators make up the
Quartet overseeing the road map
peace plan. The group also has
accused Israel of poor faith for fail-
ing to dismantle all illegal settlement
outposts in the West Bank.
