JEWELRY

PHOTOGRAPHY BY A N G I E B A A N

sraeli jewelry designer
Michal Negrin, goddess-
like in a gauzy Victorian
floral blouse and shrug of
her own creation, wowed guests
at a Neiman Marcus reception to
benefit Kadima, the Jewish
mental health agency.
Her exclusive U.S. personal
appearance drew an enthusiastic
crowd of admirers familiar with
her fanciful jewelry. "My chil-
dren bought a piece for me,"
said Rhoda Goldman. "I'm so
thrilled to meet Michal."
Negrin, from Tel Aviv, has
designed jewelry for 13 years
and her work is distributed all
over the world. She owns con-
cept shops, selling both her jew-
elry and clothing designs, in
Japan and Israel. She's opening a
concept shop in Las Vegas in
October. The jewelry collection
also is available in all Neiman
Marcus stores.
Her necklaces, in particular,
are so fantastical they almost
defy description. Painted enam-
el, crystals, beads, pearls, silk
ribbons and gemstones are com-
bined to create intricate designs.
They're a little bit Alice in
Wonderland, a little bit 1920s
opulence and a touch flower-
child bohemian.
Marla Kaftan and Gail
Stewart-Berman chaired the cos-
mopolitan cocktail soiree.
