Detroit Jewish News. staffers captured
six awards in the annual Excellence
in Media Awards presented at the
annual Society of Professional
Journalists dinner June 22 at Glen
Oaks Country Club, Farmington
Hills.
Top honors went to Editor Robert
Sklar, who took first
place for columns run
in publications with
circulations under
50,000. His Editor's
Notebooks —
"Essence of Judaism,"
"Rigors of Learning"
Sklar
and "Securing the
JCC" — swayed the
judges.

reporting category, the
JN dominated the cat-
egory, with second
place for Staff Writer

Dorfman's
"Commanding
Respect" cover story
on curbing poor
behavior at bar and
bat mitzvahs and third
place for former Staff
Writer Diana
Lieberman's cover

"Jewish Voices in
Education."
Harry Kirsbaum, a

nist, won an award for
Kirsbaum
general excellence for

and an honorable
