Darchei Torah, coordinated by Jewish
Family Service, will provide for clinical
social work services to elementary and
middle-school-age girls.
Financing for the Drachler Program
Alumni Institute, orchestrated by the
Sol Drachler Program in Jewish
Communal Service at the University of
Michigan School of Social Work in Ann
Arbor, will support women professionals
and students in the field of Jewish com-
munal service. These efforts will also
focus on breaking the glass ceiling and
achieving the work-life balance.
JWF's sponsorship of the Israeli pro-
gram, Project Education, offered
through the Upper Galilee Rape Crisis
Center, will educate young people about
positive inter-gender behavior, by pro-
viding workshops and lectures for
groups of students, teachers, law
enforcement professionals and the com-
munity about sexual harassment, abuse,
violence and rape. The program will
promote communication and respectful
behavior while working to avoid the
need for crisis intervention.
Money supporting the Beyond the
Mirror program through the Greater
Detroit Chapter of Hadassah will
address issues.affecting self-esteem and
promote positive body-self image and
healthy lifestyle choices for fourth- to
sixth-grade girls.
The grant made to Opening Windows
for Widows (through Jewish Home &
Aging Services).for a second year will
provide professionally facilitated support
groups for widows who are also
Holocaust survivors struggling with their
heightened and rekindled sense of loss.
JWF's support of Tzenuit project, pro-
posed by Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit, offers workshops
for middle-school girls that address the
social, emotional and physical challenges
of adolescence, in order to equip them
with the knowledge and coping skills
necessary to make healthy decisions with
dignity and self-confidence.
The commitment to Women Helping
Women by the Friendship Circle will
develop a program that matches Jewish
women suffering from substance addic-
tion, or members in their families, with
Jewish women who are successfully
recovering from similar situations.
JWF trustees participate in all aspects
of the foundation's governance, planning
and grant making. To become JWF
trustees, women in the community
make financial commitments entitling
them to board membership.
