ven if you haven't picked up a book all year, when summer comes most people get the
itch to read. Whether you're spending the summer in your own back yard or vacation-
ing far from home, the Jewish News has chosen some of the best recent releases from
Jewish authors or with Jewish themes to get you started.
One great way to satisfy the urge to crack the covers of a good book — and to really
get something out of it — is to join a book group. Be sure to read freelance writer
Debbie Wallis Landau's guide to book dubs included in our summer reading package.
I joined a newly formed book club about a year and half ago with 10 other women,
and I can vouch, as Landau writes, that reading groups offer a forum for stimulating
conversation as well as spur the development of satisfying friendships.
So make friends with a book this summer, whether as a solitary
pursuit or in tandem with others. Whatever's your pleasure,
you can find it within the covers of a book
