Berman Award

for Outstanding Professional Service

class were honored at Shavuot Services
May 25. Confirmands included:
Amanda Canvasser, Lindsay Canvasser,
Aaron Jacobowitz, Evan Kass, Scott
Lowen, Ethan MacWilliams, S. Marco
Myerson, Alana Nedelman, Evan
Plisner, Jeremy Posner, Andrea (A.J.)
Roberts, George Roberts, Joshua Segel,
Ryan Singer, Irine Sorser and Sara
Zupmore.

Eligibility for Nomination:

All Jewish communal professionals employed by local constituent agencies of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, who have been working in the Detroit
Jewish community a minimum of five years, may be nominated for the Mandell
and Madeleine Berman Award.

Criteria for Selection:

The recipient of the Mandell and Madeleine Berman Award shall manifest the
highest standards of Jewish communal service. The professional must have made a
contribution to and for the general good of the Jewish community, demonstrating
creativity, dedication, knowledge and care in the provision of services to the
Jewish community. Moreover, in awarding the Berman Award, consideration shall
be given to special professional innovations that reflect quality professionalism.
First consideration is given to agency professionals, follovved by Jewish Federation
staff and agency executive directors.

Evening Of Song Slated

Chabad-Lubavitch of Michigan will
host an event to - commemorate the 10th
yahrtzeit (anniversary of death) of the
Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem
Mendel
Schneerson.
The 7 p.m.
Thursday, June
17, evening of
song, speech and
vision at the
Shul-Chabad
Lubavitch will
include a keynote
Rabbi Schneerson
address by teacher
and lecturer Rabbi Mendel Lipsker of
South Africa and a video presentation
on the growthof the Chabad move-
ment.
The event, held in conjunction with
commemoration programs worldwide,
will be highlighted by a performance by
entertainer Dudu Fisher, whose career
began in his native country of Israel.
Fisher has recorded more than 20
albums and has traveled throughout the
world, bringing traditional Chassidic,
Yiddish and can-
tonal music to
audiences.
His roles range
from the part of
Jean Valjean in
the play Les
Miserables, to
Moses in the
Hebrew version
of Steven
Dudu Fisher
Spielberg's The
Prince of Egypt. He
has sung with the Israel Philharmonic
Orchestra and recorded an album of
show tunes with the London Symphony
Orchestra.
