handed him the gold medal,"
Horowitz says. "I said, 'Here, this is
for you.' He just looked at me and
said, 'You're kidding.' I said, No.
Obviously, Jackie must've been look-
ing down on me because it took 13
shots to do 12 (strikes)."
In mid-May, Horowitz won a
National Senior Bowling Association
event in Taylor, beating Len Williams
in the final, 258-193.
University of Michigan's Mark
Rothstein won his third Big 10
Rowing Coach of the Year award in
the last five years. The Wolverines
earned their fourth conference title in
five years, placed third in their region-
al and third again in the NCAA finals.
Four Jewish players helped North
Farmington win its Division 1 tennis
regional and qualify for the state tour-
nament. Junior Mike Kaufman won
the regional championship at No. 1
singles and junior Mark Weiss was a

earned regional doubles championships
— sophomore Zack Koloff at No. 1
and senior Brad Stulberg at No. 4.
Earlier, Kaufman won his second
consecutive OAA title.
West Bloomfield also qualified for
the state tournament, with a second
place finish in its regional. David
Metier won the regional at No. 4
doubles. David Murav, Mike
Feldman and Mike Boren were final-
ists at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles. Seth
Gold and Matt Plein were runners-up
at No. 2 doubles and Aaron Seidman
was a finalist at No. 3 doubles.
North Farmington senior Kyle
