POWERFUL MESSAGE from page 31

what I believe."
He went on to announce strongly that
in spite of other identifying characteris-
tics, "I am first, last and always a Jew —
who believes with all of his heart and
soul that Israel is ours because God gave
her to us.
"But she is only ours so long as we
protect and defend her at all times— at
all costs and by any and every means
necessary," he said.
Denying that he is courageous for his
stance, Hiller explained that courage is
something one does even though they
are afraid to do it.
An ardent Zionist, he instead admits,
"I provoked the confrontation with the
enemies of Israel. I did not fear it,"
Hiller said. "There was no courage
involved — just a clear decision to find
out whether I could enlist others in my
mission to help Israel."
With great recognition of those who
stood by him, he said, "The Jewish
community has galvanized and is pur-
chasing more Israeli products than ever."
As successful as his stance may have
proven to be, Hiller said, "As Jews we
know that isn't nearly enough. To pur-
chase products made in Israel is a strong
gesture of support," he said. "To learn
and observe our laws, our heritage and
our spiritual roots through the work of
schools like Akiva is also necessary."
As one who knows how to make a dif-
ference, he offered a bit of advice. "For
us to succeed, we need to be more than
just smart and not only possessed of
great understanding and be tough in
spirit," Hiller said. "We need to be all
three at once. We as Jews need to be
intellectual, compassionate warriors." ❑
