He was a retired represen- tative for the UAW, having worked in the Social Security department for 37 years. Mr. Hurwitz represented the UAW on the board of directors for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan and Delta Dental Plan of Michigan. His extensive volunteer work included the Detroit Historical Museum, Cranbrook Museum and Friends of the Farmington Hills Library as well as holding a seat on the board of directors of Farmington Youth Assistance. He was also a board officer and participant with the Detroit chapters of the Workmen's Circle and the Institute for Retired Professionals of the Jewish Community Center. He is survived by his wife or 52 years, Gloria Hurwitz of Farmington Hills; daughters, Esther Hurwitz of Ann Arbor, Rosalind Hurwitz of Chicago, and Helen. Hurwitz of Brooklyn; sister-in-law and brother- Joan and Sheldon Applefield. Mr. Hurwitz was the beloved brother of the late Helen Reisler and the late David Hurwitz.
